The Memorial Hospital | Craig, CO
Solid Leadership Steers Community to New Hospital
Located in the Yampa River Valley, The Memorial Hospital was built in 1949 and offered no ability for expansion. The hospital applied to the HUD 242 Mortgage Insurance Program for a loan guarantee to build a new facility, but they needed community support to secure the financing. This meant the community of Craig needed to pass a referendum to create a $3 million tax initiative to support the hospital. AHFD, as the project managers, provided significant materials and support towards educating the community about the need for a new hospital.
When the referendum was passed, AHFD used their project management skills and team approach to work out innovative solutions for unexpected problems, which included hitting expansive clay during drilling. Due to AHFD's leadership and experience the hospital was finished early and on budget – something the town had never before experienced in a community project. The Memorial Hospital now provides the city of Craig with a state-of-the-art critical access facility.
“This was the first time I'd ever gone from start to finish on a new construction project. AHFD ensured our hospital was built correctly. They helped us fill the experience gap and ensured the entire delivery team worked together in the most efficient way possible. Because of AHFD, our hospital was completed 6-8 weeks early, which on an 11-month project is amazing. Our customers, our physicians, and our staff are thrilled with the results of our efforts.” –George Rohrich, CEO, The Memorial Hospital
