A $47 million dream became a reality Thursday as Magnolia Regional Health Center officially unveiled its new expansion and heart and vascular center to the public with a special preview for community and civic leaders.

The hospital hosted an open house for the public on Friday.
The expansion project includes a trio of state of the art operating rooms for open heart, vascular and other surgeries, 72 new private patient rooms, an all new surgical intensive care and short stay surgery facility, a new state-of-the-art cardiac cath lab with eight private pre-and post heart cath rooms, all new waiting areas, six medical offices suites, a new cardiac rehabilitation area and numerous other new amenities.

The expansion has already added 106 new jobs with 30 to 40 more jobs waiting to be filled.

The new facility features the latest technology and amenities throughout, with one of the most technologically advanced operating rooms to be found anywhere.

The new 72 new patient rooms will allow the hospital to do away with the use of semi-private rooms and provide numerous new amenities and conveniences for both staff and patients. The rooms all have their own showers. A window seat-style arrangement in each room offers a convenient place for family members to sleep while being there for their loved ones.

Nurses will have access to the latest technology including a wireless, pager-based call system which will immediately alter the nursing staff when a patient pushes a call button without the use of the traditional overhead paging system.

The facility also includes the latest in communication and imaging systems, allowing surgeons and others to easily share high definition diagnostic images with each other to ease consultation amount staff memers with time is of the essence.

Napper praised the hospital’s board and the board supervisors and board of aldermen for supporting the project. He said despite the impressive surroundings of the new building, it’s vital to remember what health care is really all about.

“I hope I never forget that, as beautiful as our new facility is, regardless of the effort it took, in spite of all the issues that surround us in healthcare in this country today, it’s not about the building, it’s about the people,” he said.
