The Connecticut Children's Medical Center is a replacement facility resulting from an extremely complex operational and physical merger of the pediatric services of Newington Children's Hospital, the University of Connecticut John Dempsey Hospital and Hartford Hospital.
AHFD was responsible for all aspects of the project including design and budget control, development of Concepts of Operation, transition planning, construction, equipping, commissioning and move-in. The project was facilitated via a Partnering platform. AHFD implemented a unique team structure by bringing together national and local architects, engineers, contractors and specialty consultants.
Built on the existing Hartford Hospital campus, this unique children's hospital was completed three months ahead of schedule and $963,000 under budget without disrupting Hartford's operations. An innovative Owner Controlled Insurance Program, orchestrated by AHFD, reduced claims more than 50% below the local average.
